The HM-353 Dead-Weight Consolidation Load Frame is used in the application of loads in stress-controlled soil consolidation testing.
This table top testing machine is designed by Karol-Warner and has a 48tsf (4,597kPa) capacity. The advanced design allows instant loading with minimal impact for determining expected soil settlement. It features a rear-weight counterbalanced beam assembly for 9:1, 10:1 or 11:1 beam ratios. These ratios offer a wider selection of loads with weight sets. Its design includes two vertical rods, one beam support rod and one crossarm. Vertical and beam support rods are made of stainless steel; the crossarm is constructed of anodized aluminum. This device is designed for use with consolidometers in testing specimens up to 3in (76.2mm). Locating pins on the top platform precisely center fixed or floating ring consolidometers for loading. The loading platform has vertical and horizontal clearance of 5.25x6.38in (133x161mm). Rugged anodized aluminum plate resists corrosion in rough laboratory testing.
The unit requires selection of a weight set, available separately in lb or kg versions. The pound weight sets are configured in tons/ft² (tsf) for a 2.5in (63.5mm) soil specimen when a 10:1 beam ratio is being used.
Also required is an Analog or Digital Dial Indicator, sold separately. Fixed or Floating Ring Consolidometers are also sold separately.
The optional steel HMA-89 Dead-Weight Consolidation Frame Stand converts the table top consolidation system to a free-standing floor unit.
