LBR Load Frames

Gilson’s load frames provide solid performance for Limerock Bearing Ratio (LBR) tests in accordance with Florida FM-5-515 and other soil testing applications. The LBR test sample is placed in the load frame, which advances a piston into the specimen at a constant loading rate of 0.05in/min (1.3mm/min).

The penetration resistance of the sample is measured using a load ring or load cell. The calculated value provides a relative measure of the soil’s strength, which is used in pavement design to determine the thickness of the layers needed to support expected traffic loads.

Gilson offers Servo Control Load Frames and the Manual CBR Load Frame to perform LBR testing.

Servo Control Load Frames, 0.00001–2in/min, 10,000/20,000lbf
Models: HM-390, HM-400
Triaxial Load Frame

Servo Control Load frames feature a 10,000lbf (44.4kN) or 20,000lbf (88.9kN) load capacity and an extra-wide strain rate range of 0.00001–2in/min (0.0001–50.8mm/min). The touchscreen controller includes a quick strain rate selection for LBR testing and regulates control to within ±1% under load using feedback from the servo motor.

These heavy duty load frames have sturdy, 16-gauge painted steel enclosures and adjusting nuts on the coarse-threaded rods that allow easy adjustment to the horizontal crosshead.

Digital component sets are purchased separately and required for full data collection. LBR sets are designed for LBR testing and include the high-quality instruments needed to measure load and displacement. View our available LBR Load & Displacement Measurement Component Sets.

Data Acquisition Software, purchased separately, automatically records load and displacement data and generates a real-time load-penetration curve for calculating LBR tests.

The Manual CBR Load Frame utilizes hand-operated cranks for loading and meets ASTM D1883 and AASHTO 193 test standards. A component set is not required.
