Mortar Penetrometers

Gilson’s Mortar Penetrometers are hydraulic or spring-reaction devices that perform well in a lab or field and used in determining set times of concrete mixes, prepared mortars, and grouts by measuring penetration resistance. Resistance is plotted to determine initial (500psi) and final (4000psi) setting times.

Mortar Penetrometers

Each model is supplied with six standard stainless steel penetration needles in bearing areas of 1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, 1/20, 1/40 in² (645, 323, 161, 65, 32, and 16mm²), used for testing samples at regular intervals.

  • Acme Penetrometer is a hydraulic-reaction benchtop device to determine the initial and final setting time of concrete mixes, mortars, and grouts.
  • Manual Mortar Penetrometer is a spring-reaction apparatus for the initial and final set of mortars that have been sieved from concrete mixes.
