Infrared Thermometers enable temperature determinations from a distance with no need for direct contact. A detector processes infrared energy, which is converted and displayed as a temperature. These compact, hand-held thermometers are very useful for on-the-spot monitoring of asphalt paving operations for temperature variations, or inspecting concrete pavement and bridge decks for voids and delaminations.
Along with overall temperature range, field of view, expressed as the distance to spot ratio (D:S) is important to consider. A larger D:S rating means that more of the target area is in the field of view at a greater distance, assuring more accurate readings. Built-in laser pointers help determine the center of the field of view, or the outside limits when multiple lasers are used.
