Model LP-14 water determination apparatus measures water content of asphalts, oils, greases, tars, and other petroleum and bituminous products. Water is distilled under reflux with a water-immiscible solvent, then condensed and separated in a graduated trap. Main components of the system include a special metal still, an adjustable ring burner for all gases with ports on its inside circumference, a 400mm glass reflux condenser, and a glass trap with stopcock graduated by 0.1ml-10ml then by 0.2ml-25ml capacity. The 1qt (0.9L) still is made of lightweight aluminum alloy for best heat conduction. The gasketed cover is fastened by a heavy yoke with steel compression screw. Also included are a rectangular metal support stand, a burette clamp to hold the condenser, and clamps to fasten the ring burner and burette clamp to the stand upright. Main advantage of the special metal still and ring burner system is the burner can be moved up and down on the still while testing materials that solidify.
