ERSA (Evaluator for Rutting and Stripping of Asphalt) is the most versatile asphalt wheel-tracking device available. It tests two specimens simultaneously and is fully equipped to evaluate hot-mix asphalt performance under many different conditions. Wheel Track testing has gained popularity as a way of determining resistance to rutting and moisture damage of different asphalt mixes. ERSA easily performs the Hamburg Wheel Tracking Test, but is also adjustable to user-defined settings for other test parameters in independent research. Specimens of beams, cores, sawed sections, gyratory compaction pills and slabs from laboratory compactors can be tested.

The two testing stations can be set independently for wheel loads, and wet or dry temperature controlled testing. This feature is especially useful for testing wet and dry specimens side-by-side to highlight the effects of stripping. The system reads 200 data points per pass for more accurate analysis of results. Simultaneous plots of deformation vs. number of cycles or profile views allow rapid analysis of pavement durability and homogeneity.

Loaded wheels operate from 520-4,200 passes per hour with loads from 50-250lbf (222-1,112N). A heating/cooling unit with water bath and an air temperature heater for above ambient temperature dry testing controls testing chamber temperature from 1 °-60 °C (34 °-140 °F). Sample deformation is detected and recorded to 0.001in (0.025mm). A Windows® based PC is included, and is preloaded with the control and data collection software.

The ERSA Wheel Tracker consists of a testing frame and housing with two Testing Wheels, Sample Trays, Load Platforms and Water Baths. Sample Trays will accommodate specimens up to 12x15x6in (305x381x152mm), WxDxH. A set of HDPE plastic sample holders are included to mount in the trays and secure 6in (150mm) cylindrical samples. Mounting of any sample type is accomplished by casting into place with plaster of Paris (not included). Water Tank capacity is 25gal (95L) each. Extra Sample Trays with HDPE Blocks may be purchased as HMA-17.

The complete unit is 60x48x60in (1.8x1.4x1.8m), WxDxH and weighs approximately 1,500lb (680kg) dry. Parts in contact with water are stainless steel. Electrical requirements are 110V/60Hz AC at 15 amps. Inquire for other voltages. Installation and training within the continental United States is included.
