The HM-820A California Kneading Compactor is designed for controlled compaction of soils or bituminous specimens through a special tamping foot of about 3.1in2 (20cm²). Machine capacity is 2,500lbf (11.1kN) compactive force with a maximum stroke of 10in (254mm). Specification work is done with 4in (102mm) diameter HMA-118 cylindrical Hveem Molds, the unit is capable of hydraulic compaction in 6in (152mm) molds. The kneading contact pressure is controlled by a pressure regulator with automatic compensation for change in specimen height during compaction. A hopper and conveyor belt feeding trough are provided for automatically feeding up to 1,500g of sample to molds in 20 increments using programmed electronic load pulses timed to the tamper foot. Compaction parameters of contact pressure, tamp count, up/down stroke rates, up-stroke return distance, and dwell time in contact position are all user selectable. A rotating mold holder table is user-programmable for 6-72 degree rotation increments with electronic timing to the tamper foot. All switching, timing, and positioning parameters are stored in memory, and system control is via PLC with touch screen.

Overall Compactor Dimensions: 43x39x78in (1,092x991x1,981mm), WxDxH. 15in (381mm) added width is required for automatic feeder swing-out space on the left side of the machine. Net weight is 1,650lb (750kg). On-site installation and training are available, quoted on request. Special compactor models for up to 15in (381mm) stroke and 12in (305mm) high mold or 18in (457mm) stroke and 15in (381mm) high mold are also available by special order. Est. HMA-118 Hveem Compaction Molds must be ordered separately; three or more are suggested. The steel mold is 5 ±0.008in (127 ±0.2mm) high and 4 ±0.002in (101.6 ±0.05mm), ID. Est. Ship Wt.: 6lb (3kg).

HMA-770 battery-operated Moisture Exudation Indicator is necessary for R-Value soils testing to indicate pressure at which water is exuded from compacted specimens using the method described in ASTM D 2844, AASHTO T 190 or CA 301.
