GilSonic UltraSiever® Sonic Sifter delivers sharp, repeatable separations for granular materials and fine powders from No. 4 (4.75mm) to 5µm. The UltraSiever® uses sonic sieving action with two-way (horizontal and vertical) tapping to achieve the most accurate and reliable particle separations of fine dry powders and granular materials.
This sonic sifter has seven times the capacity of the GA-6 GilSonic AutoSiever Sonic Sifter and accepts up to seven 8in (203mm) full-height test sieves. The particle size range for ASTM E11 woven wire sieves is from 1/4in–No. 635 (6.3mm to 20µm), or ASTM E161 sieves with unsupported precision electroformed mesh range from 150–5µm with tolerances of ±2µm can be used. ISO 565, 3310-1 200mm sieves can also be used when paired with the required GAA-10 Adapter Set. The sample size for materials up to 1/4in (6.3mm) can be 100g or more. 10g or less is typical when using precision electroformed sieves below 20µm. Acrylic Spacers are required when using less than seven sieves or for viewing sieving action.
Sieving action is created by 3,600 sonic pulses/min oscillating inside the sieve stack. Sieving intensity (amplitude) is set through a proportional controller based on the observation of particles during agitation. A programmable ramping feature increases amplitude to the maximum rate and holds it, then reduces it back down for optimum separation. The horizontal tappers can be positioned to tap on selected sieves. Four vertical tappers can be operated as one pair for most materials or two pairs for difficult samples. Both horizontal and vertical tappers aid the passage of near-size fines.
The built-in memory stores up to ten programs with specific amplitude, ramping, tapping, and test duration settings for specific materials. Test times vary depending on material type and particle size. Typical sieving time is 1–5 minutes, but operating time can be set for up to 99.9 minutes.
The powder-coated steel case has vertically hinged Lexan™ doors enclosing the sieve chamber. The enclosed operation reduces dust to help confine and control the airborne respirable particles in the breathing zone of personnel. The sample material is contained by the flexible top and bottom diaphragms. The stack is sealed when the upper enclosure is lowered into place. When testing is complete, fines are recovered from the bottom diaphragm.
The GA-8 operates on a selectable power supply of 115V, 60Hz or 230V, 50Hz, and 100 Watts maximum.
