The HM-86 Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR) determines linear viscoelastic properties of performance-graded asphalt binders at temperatures from 5°—85°C (41°—185°F). It’s also used in QC/QA testing and some research applications. The lower specimen plates hold a disc of asphalt in place, while the upper measurement plates oscillate to produce strain. Dynamic shear modulus and phase angle properties are measured.
Dual operation in strain or stress control mode makes this instrument adaptable to many applications. The system has a torque-measuring drive for determining strain and a circulator system to immerse the sample in fluid at a constant temperature. 8mm and 25mm upper and lower stainless steel specimen plates are provided, as well as a built-in Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD). A special “NO GAP" feature eliminates the need for the operator to re-zero the instrument gap when changes occur. The two marked SHRP testing positions are easily selected and locked for a smooth, secure test procedure. The latest ASTM and AASHTO protocols are built into the included software and PG Grading determinations are automatic. The HM-86 DSR requires an air supply of 1 SCFM at 60psi.
HMA-356 Silicone Rubber Mold Set is required, but purchased separately. A Windows® compatible PC such as Gilson’s HM-354 system is also required, along with a printer.
