The SG-35 Gilson AutoRiceTM Controller System precisely regulates vacuum pressure and time, while monitoring shaker vibration energy during theoretical maximum specific gravity testing (Rice Test) of hot-mix asphalt samples.

This innovative new system is the first of its kind to accurately monitor actual acceleration and frequency energy produced by Rice Shakers. Accurate measurement of these values can help establish acceptable parameters for adjusting vibration settings between different shakers, reduce repeatability issues and prevent stripping of samples.
With the push of a button, the AutoRice Controller starts the vacuum pump, regulates vacuum pressure, controls vacuum time and measures vibration frequency of the shaker. The system is easy to set up with menu driven software and replaces traditional analog or digital manometers. Operators simply enter sample weights and the system calculates maximum specific gravity results. Users can download data from each test cycle to a PC via USB port for review to meet applicable test specifications. Documented test data can be stored, shared or emailed.
This system is compatible with Gilson’s SGA-5R Rice Shaker and is suited for glass, metal or plastic pycnometers. Compact design allows benchtop placement or easy wall-mounting of the controller. The SG-35 also automates the saturation process for AASHTO T 283 Moisture-Induced Damage specimens. The Controller is equipped with a 3/8in (10mm) hose barb connection and controls vacuum pumps (purchased separately) up to 3/4hp to ±0.4mm at 27.5mmHg.
The SG-35 AutoRice System includes a PumpSaver™ to protect vacuum pumps and optimize efficiency. The PumpSaver has a high-performance thermoelectric (Peltier) chamber to chill incoming air. Moisture is condensed in the chamber, removing it from the air before it reaches the vacuum pump and eliminating the need for elaborate moisture traps and dessicant cartridges. It also offers lower resistance to air flow to maximize pump efficiency and increase service life. Your pump reaches the desired vacuum immediately, increasing test accuracy and repeatability. The unit has one inlet and one outlet port for connection between the vacuum pump and pycnometer, using 0.375, 0.475 or 0.5in (10, 11, or 13.5mm) ID tubing, purchased separately.
